TRAINING DATES: June 30-July 5, 2010

TRAVEL INFORMATION

Training will take place in Gainesville, GA.

Arrival by flight – Wednesday, June 30, before 3pm at the Atlanta Hartsfield – Jackson International Airport

ARRIVE before 3pm.  Once your plane arrives and you have claimed your luggage, please meet AIM in the center Atrium on the main level of the Atlanta Airport. You will be met by staff and leaders in Adventures in Missions staff T-shirt at the giant Dinosaur statue.  Upon arrival, we also ask that you contact your parents by pay phone to let them know you have arrived safely in Atlanta.
The AIM bus will leave the airport to Gainesville promptly at 4pm. There is no cost to you for this shuttle.

Remember, air transportation often includes delays, therefore plan ahead for the unexpected and allow ample time between gate arrival, baggage claim and transportation pickup. You can expect it to take one hour from the time your plane arrives to the time you are ready to leave. Therefore, be sure your flight arrives BEFORE 3pm.

We understand that travel to and from training camp can often meet with problems along the way. If anything concerning your travel changes, please have these phone numbers handy to let us know.

·       Adventures in Missions Office Line – 770-983-1060 x 249-or ask for Amanda Bryant

We realize that flight schedules are not always ideal. Plan on arriving earlier rather than later.

Check out kayak.com for a great airline search engine. Do not hesitate to ask for directions and help from any airport employees.

Arrival by car – Wednesday, June 30, between 4:00pm and 6:00pm, Gainesville, GA

ARRIVE between 4pm and 6pm.  Please do not come before that as staff may not be available to welcome and direct you.  NOTE: You can be dropped off at Training Camp but you may not drive your own personal car to Training Camp because you will not have transportation back to the Training Center at the end of the summer.

Driving in North Georgia can be more complicated than you would expect. We recommend you search Google Maps for directions or have a GPS system with you.

If you need further directions or you get lost, please be sure you have our phone numbers handy. Also, please make sure your profile page includes a number where we may contact you as you travel.

Packing list for training camp

The accommodations at training camp are somewhat primitive. Be prepared for outdoor showers. Also, be sure you are prepared for any weather – hot afternoons, cold nights, rain, sleet, snow – ANYTHING! Though you may think I’m exaggerating, one camp it started at 80 degrees and then dropped to below freezing. Be prepared! Check the weather forecast before coming. Our zip code is 30506. You will be properly equipped if you follow your Ambassador packing list. Be sure you have these items:

  • All sleeping stuff including a sleeping bag.
  • Clothes for the whole time (1 semi casual outfit). Mostly outdoor activities. AIM dress code applies. Some clothes may be ruined by our pretty red Georgia clay-yes, it really is red!
  • Flip flops (for the shower)
  • Close-toed shoes and long pants for the team builders.
  • Water bottle
  • Towel and shower stuff – outdoor, cold showers only
  • Basic First Aid kit including Mosquito Spray, medicine for stomach issues, headaches, allergies including seasonal, bug bites, or nature-caused, band-aids, anti-bacterial wipes and ointment, sunscreen, and aloe vera.

  • Bible, journal, and a pen
  • Spending money for snacks
